A Warm (45 seconds in the microwave) Welcome Home

What better way to say "Welcome home!" than with a delicious, buttery - and I mean buttery - bowl of bread pudding?

I spent the last week out of the office at one of my Company's sites in Twin Falls, ID.  It was filled with fun and exciting experiences like eating Chick-Fil-A for the first time and scoping out a giant gorge or canyon, or some term like that that isn't in my Pacific Northwest vocabulary.  My review on these things were:
1. Turns out Chick-Fil-A was pretty good. The pickles were a necessary touch.

2. That canyon was beautiful in a tree-less landscape sort of way.

So anyway, I got back to the office today and guess what we had in the fridge?! Correct! Bread Pudding.  There was a Credit/Collections meeting in Vancouver this week and the crew had dinner and dessert at Big Al's, a bowling and restaurant entertainment destination in Vancouver, WA.

So yes, I spooned myself a decent lunch-sized bowl of bread pudding and tried out the Big Al's special.

My conclusion: For day-old BP, it held up well.  As you can see from the picture below, it had raisins, which aren't my favorite in any dessert. However, this BP needed a little blast of flavor and the raisins provided it.  Big Al's BP was made of very large bread chucks, (which I prefer as it adds some texture and makes it less mushy).  They also clearly use some a crap-ton of butter. I scavenged the fridge at work looking for some vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce, but came up empty-handed.  This BP would have benefited from either of those.

All in all, it was a lovely lunch time treat. Will I order it next time I go to Big Al's? Meh. Depends on how hungry I am.

Final grade: B-

  1. I wonder if the texture and taste would have been the same if it had not been day-old BP. Could you have added chocolate. In my experience, chocolate makes everything better. Just more food for thought.
